What is the NDIS?

The NDIS is Australia’s national scheme for eligible people with permanent and significant disability. It provides funding for supports and services that help participants work towards their goals and take part in everyday life with greater independence and confidence.
For many participants, that support can extend well beyond one-off assistance. It may include help with personal care, community access, capacity building, nursing supports, or coordination with other providers depending on the approved plan. The broader purpose of the scheme is to make sure support is shaped around the individual rather than expecting the individual to fit around the service.

Specialised High-Intensity NDIS Supports for Complex Care in Melbourne

Some participants require more than standard daily assistance. They may need higher-intensity supports, nursing input, or care that takes account of complex medical conditions, dual diagnoses, or behaviours of concern. In these situations, the provider’s clinical capability and risk management processes become especially important.
Nurse4U provides support for participants with complex care needs across Melbourne. Services may be delivered in a participant’s home, in Supported Independent Living, or in Short-Term Accommodation, depending on the person’s plan and living arrangement. The emphasis is on safe support delivery, clear communication, and care planning that respects both dignity and daily function.
This kind of support works best when it is structured but still flexible. A participant may need help with clinical routines, personal care, transfers, medication support, or health monitoring, while also wanting to maintain choice, familiarity, and involvement in day-to-day decisions. That balance is central to quality support.

FAQs

NDIS providers are individuals or organisations that offer support and services to NDIS participants.

Yes, as NDIS care providers, Nurse4U accepts NDIS funding. They work with self-managed, plan-managed and NDIS managed participants.

The NDIS offers a range of support including:

  • Provision of personal care assistance to help participants with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing & meal preparation.
  • Therapy services
  • Assistive technology
  • Home modifications
  • Social participation support
  • These supports are designed to enhance the independence, well-being and overall quality of life of NDIS participants.

The NDIS provides funding to eligible individuals with disabilities allowing them to:

  • Spend more quality time with family & friends
  • Gain more independence
  • Acquire new skills
  • Enhance their quality of life

Additionally, the NDIS facilitates connections to community services for people with disabilities.

The Vision & Purpose of the NDIS is to:

  • Assist people with disabilities in becoming more independent.
  • Support their pursuit of work and education.
  • Enable them to have a greater choice and control over their lives.

It’s easy to request NDIS Disability support Services including nursing care from Nurse4U. You can contact us via phone, email or complete our online enquiry form. From there you can discuss your specific nursing care needs and Nurse4U will then guide you through the process.

Yes. Choice and control are core principles of the NDIS, and participants can change providers if their current arrangements no longer suit their goals or support needs. In many cases, the process depends on the service agreement already in place, including any notice period or exit clause that applies.

If you are planning to move to a new provider, it is usually best to review your service agreement first so the transition can be managed properly and without disruption to essential supports.

Choosing a provider is a practical as well as personal decision. It helps to look at whether the provider has the right experience for your needs, whether their approach matches your preferences, and whether they are registered if your plan requires a registered provider.

If your support needs are complex, you may also want to check whether the provider has access to clinical staff, established care systems, and the ability to manage higher-intensity supports safely. Registered providers are audited against the NDIS Practice Standards and assessed by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.

NDIS providers deliver the supports and services funded in a participant’s plan. Depending on the plan, that may include personal care, nursing support, daily living assistance, community participation, therapy-related supports, or accommodation-related services.

In practice, a provider’s role is not only to deliver the support itself, but also to do so in a way that is safe, consistent, and aligned with the participant’s goals and funding arrangements. Good provider relationships often depend on clear expectations, regular communication, and service agreements that set out how support will be delivered.

The registration process is detailed and involves an application, audit requirements, suitability assessment, and a formal decision by the NDIS Commission. The exact timeframe can vary depending on the provider’s circumstances, audit scope, and the completeness of the submission. The Commission describes the process as structured and multi-step rather than immediate.

It is also important to note that regulatory settings continue to evolve. For example, the NDIS Commission has announced that the transition to mandatory registration for Supported Independent Living providers will begin from 1 July 2026.

You can confirm a provider’s status through the NDIS Commission’s Provider Register. The register lists providers that are currently registered and can also show providers whose registration has been suspended or revoked.

If needed, you can also ask the provider directly for their registration details and current certification.

The main difference is the level of formal oversight and who they can support under different funding arrangements. Registered providers are audited and regulated by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission and must meet the NDIS Practice Standards.

Unregistered providers can still deliver supports in some circumstances, but they do not go through the same registration and audit process. In general, participants whose plans are NDIA-managed need to use registered providers, while self-managed or plan-managed participants may have more flexibility depending on the support being purchased.
